S&D delegation met representative of Swedish Presidency

S&D MEPs met today in Copenhagen the representative of Swedish EU Presidency. The briefing of the Swedish official was informal.
According to Minister Calgren, the will is still there, but the mood is very tense. It is very difficult to find a solution on Kyoto which the EU wants. The EU Swedish Presidency is working hard with the COP Presidency and leaders of the world to find a solution to all the unsolved issues. The Kyoto Protocol does not far enough because it does not cover two thirds of emitters across the world. On financing and forestation, action from the US will be critical. China needs to accept the role of financing too. Finally, for Calgren, the arrival of President Obama in Copenhagen with the ability to be constructive will be decisive. But the reality is about the domestic situation in the US, China and of course, Europe is shaping negotiations here in Copenhagen.
