As a high-level S&D delegation prepares to join the UN climate change talks in Copenhagen next week, Group leader Martin Schulz today called for a global action to deliver a far reaching and legally binding agreement.

Mr.Schulz today wrote on the S&D delegation's climate change blog "The Melting Iceberg":

"Climate change affects us all and we must act jointly to prevent it from spinning out of control. To save our planet we need a comprehensive and global agreement halving global emissions by 2050.Copenhagen must put the world on the right track with firm 2020 targets and a financing agreement that is fair and just".

The editorial of Mr.Schulz can be accessed on http://themeltingiceberg.blogspot.com/

Our climate change blog represents the primary source of information on the S&D position at the Copenhagen talks. All members of the S&D delegation contribute regularly so that "The Melting Iceberg" is a dynamic source of information and offers fresh thinking every day.

The S&D delegation wants ambitious steps: to cut emissions, create green jobs and fund developing countries.

The MEPs will attend four thematic working groups in Copenhagen from December 14 to 18:

-industry, sustainable energy and green jobs
-developing countries, governing structure financing
-land use and forestry
-emissions trading

S&D MEPs in Copenhagen together with other members of the EP delegation organise a side event in the EU Pavilion on December 17.

Experts from 192 countries opened negotiations on Monday in Copenhagen on the draft agreement on the UN Climate Change Conference and preparations for high-level talks, which begin on December 15.
