COP 15 - first impressions

The Delegation has landed… and has got into the Bella Centre unscathed….

The queues were long, the weather cold, but the spirits were high! Today will be busy: Once in the Conference centre, we had a meeting by Yvo De Boer, Head of the UN secretariat on climate change, to give us a briefing on the state of negotiations so far. He is confident that there will be an agreement at the end of this week, as the will is there and the political leadership is not staying away. Indeed, global leaders are coming to Copenhagen earlier than planned! However, it will be a difficult week to get different parties to agree to anything concrete. For developing countries, the Kyoto Protocol must be replaced by a better deal. However, this is not going to be a position supported by the US. We wait to see what role Russia,Ukraine,Brasil will take...
