Meeting with South Korean parliamentarians

Members of the S@D delegation met today in the Bella Center parliamentarians from South Korea. The exchange of views delt with some priorities of the climate agenda.
The Korean government are going to adopt a law to tackle climate change this year by reducing emissions by 30%.
The 15 strong Members of the South Korean parliament view the issue of climate change as an energy security priority, and are implementing policies to promote renewable energy by reducing oil and coal dependency.
The Koreans are attempting to change the economic growth pattern to a more sustainable way, eco-friendly and energy independent society. The Korean negotiator seems to be looking for a middle ground in the negotiations, as a non Annex 1 country.
S@D MEPs Linda McAvan , Matthias Groote and Vittorio Prodi spoke about the state of negotations and the economic recovery plan. The Koreans seem very progressive and are clearly looking for support from likeminded countries to get a deal in Copenhagen.
